With strong traditions in education, in science and in public sector
undertakings related to science and technology, Bangalore has rapidly
made the transition to the new economy in Information Technology.
The Government of Karnataka wishes to build on these strong foundations
to make Bangalore the Biotech City of India.
Karnataka's Biotech Policy, is expected to spur the growth of the
biotech industry in the State and encourage extensive research and
development in the various opportunities the field offers. Karnataka
already houses numerous biotech companies and quality research institutions
that places it in a prominent position in the field of biotechnology.
The Government of Karnataka has constituted a Biotechnology Vision
Group, chaired by Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Biocon India Ltd., to
spearhead initiatives in the field of Biotechnology.
